Welcome
My name is John Paxton Sheriff. I write mystery novels, books on writing technique, and short Western novels.
I write two mystery series. One features PI Jack Scott and colleagues Sian Laidlaw and Calum Wick. I will be starting on the sixth in that series at the end of May. The second series features ex-photographer turned amateur PI, Penny Lane, her husband Josh, and an intriguing character called Sharkey.
The second Penny Lane novel was published by Robert Hale at the end of May. This is the cover, and the brief description that appears on the inside flap. The first few hundred words can be read by jumping to the Crime Novel Excerpts page.
When photographer and amateur PI Penny Lane calls at estate agent Larry Galleywood's house for a routine magazine interview, she is caught up in a locked room murder. A few hours later, a second death brings further complications. Are the murders linked? Why was the second body placed in the luggage box on Steve Easter's old BMW? Are members of the Seasoned Scribe's writers' group involved in one or both murders? And how are the killings linked to a property scam that has stolen millions of Euros from holidaymakers in the Greek islands? To tackle these crimes Penny enlists the help of husband Josh and her colleague, Ryan Sharkey. The investigation inevitably reaches a shocking, bruising conclusion.
More news along the same lines: the large print edition of the fifth Jack Scott mystery, An Evil Reflection, has just been published by Ulverscroft. This is the cover:
